At the end of January 2016 we embarked on a whole new journey & life experience following the arrival of 3 pot belly pigs!!
Doris and Lord Valdesnort were found wandering on a bog in the midlands (there was one other pig with them but it could not be located the day they were rescued) and Dora had been surrendered to the ISPCA from an unsuitable home.
Needless to say not having had pigs in our care before Google was consulted on many occasions over the first few weeks as well as speaking with a neighbour of BAR’s who previously had pigs and Siobhan Luff from the Irish Pig Society
Rumour has it that pigs will eat anything and everything … yeah right!! our three amigos are as fussy as you will find. The will not eat anything green other than grass or apples and carrots are not on their favourites list either. Clearly though they were all born in Ireland because they do love to get spuds
Just as we were getting the hang of this new species we found ourselves yet again scratching our heads, consulting google and ‘phoning a friend’ … because on Sunday the 20th of March at approx 10.30pm when doing a final check up that they were in their house (pigs really are great explorers!!) we discovered Doris had 4 piglets by her side.
Doris is a very protective mother so we have not yet managed to get much one to one time with the piglets. We can tell you that they consist of 3 girls and 1 boy, they know to use their vocal cords to alert their mother whenever they feel trouble (in the guise of a human) is approaching and they are very quick on their legs!!
