clarecastle showWith schools back in full swing and a sense of busyness all around we felt it was time for some summer reflections and autumn news.

What a pleasure it was to meet so many lovely people at the agricultural shows and markets we attended over the past few months.  After the two years of no in-person events it was great to be back out meeting & greeting, seeing all the animals, listening to people’s stories and helping those looking for advice.

We hope to be out and about a few more times before the year is over so keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates as you never know where we might pop up with tack and/or crafts for sale.

At the rescue we still have lots of cats/kittens looking for homes and two happy-go-lucky terrier ladies that came into our care during the summer are now ready for rehoming following their full recovery from mange.  It has thankfully been a relatively good year as regards rehoming some of our donkeys and horses because the rise in the cost of diesel had a knockon affect on the price of hay from May.  These are just some of the animals currently at the rescue

Thanks to the economic worries so many of us are facing right now due to continuing price increases.  We are doing our very best to help as many animals as we can but the sheer number of requests for help is overwhelming.  Now we find ourselves not only having to work out if we have space to take in another animal, we also have to factor in that what it would usually have cost us to take in that one extra animal is higher too.

prize draw 2022 infoTo alleviate some of our financial worries we have decided to run this year’s Prize Draw a bit earlier than usual.  It will operate the same as last year’s draw – €5.00 a ticket and prizes are €750, €200 & €50 respectively for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  The draw will take place at 9pm on November 6th.

We know all too well that every fiver in your pocket counts right now but with just under 8 weeks to the closing date if you put aside 50 cent to a euro each week and then buy your ticket you could win yourself up to €750.

Together we can do this for the animals that can’t.

We often get asked for contact details of farriers, equine dentists, trainers, etc so we are going to add a useful contacts section to our website.  If you know or would like to recommend someone please send us their name, number, information, etc and we will find out if they wish to be included – or better still ask them to send us their contact information and services to be listed directly to sheena@burrenrescue.com

Lastly but not least if you have any leftover building materials, timber, etc and are not too far away from us we would gratefully take them out of your way.  Our cat accommodation is top of the list for renovations and a few field shelters need attention before another round of winter storms hit them.

Thanks to all who continue to support us.
